Much has been written about Islamic history but little is known about the pre-Islamic period in the Middle East that preceded the rise of Islam. This book attempts to trace the influence of this period of idolatry and ignorance referred to as al-Jahiliyya upon Muhammad that led him to proclaim the oneness of God. Ethno-geographic environments, petty kingdoms, nomadism, animism, demonism, polytheistic deities and early Meccan history are explored to reveal factors that led to the rise of Islam and the demise of Jahili paganism.
